Since there is no way in hell I could possibly manage to sum myself up via commonplace words and phrases from the English language in a short amount of time and space, I won’t attempt to do so. That would be pretty biased, anyway. Everyone knows people think differently about themselves than others probably see them in one way or another. So thus in order to attempt to be even slightly neutral about my own self, I shall include some information that my friends across the globe have let me know about how they see me, whether the know me in person or through the internet. To start out with, though, I think I can manage to give some general, non-exaggerated facts about who I am just to set the scene…
My name is Haley. I said that in the sidebar already, though, so that should have been established prior to you visiting this page. It is indeed pronounced HEY-lee even though I do not have extra i or y letters in my name, which seems to confuse people everywhere I go. Even though I have been on this planet with the same name and spelling since the 1980′s, I still get some pretty freaky pronunciations and spellings practically every time I go somewhere new. So therefore, it is extremely critical you understand my name is Haley, sounds like HEY-lee, and is spelled h – a – l – e – y. Hooray.
Yes, Haley is what people call me. If you ask someone, “Do you know Haley?” in reference to me in particular, you will get varied answers depending on where you ask it. If you ask someone online in one of the “circles” I frequent, you will hear some things and not others. The same can be said for areas where I have spent substantial time such as the high school I graduated from. Across the board, though, there are some consistent phrases/words that are brought up in regards to knowing me and who I am. Some of the most appropriate and strangely telling ones are as follows:
People say that I am…
a legend, an idol, deep, a good model for an alien, nourishment to the heart, epic, epic win, like Aslan [is] to Narnia, the master of the English language, a gay magnet, completely awesome, their [online]-or-[same aged] mother, loved to pieces, very easily amused, a goldfish, a non-human human, like Angelina Jolie
Though the phrases and terms above may seem a little out of the ordinary, they are all completely accurate in describing aspects about me and who I am. Each of those phrases are not simply in relation to one particular event or time in my life: they can all be easily interchanged and swapped with one another for anything and everything about me. How the phrases were thought up and came about is another thing, but in the end, they are all pretty darn awesome and as close as you can get!
In my own words, though, I do not know how I could possibly explain who I am to a random stranger or acquaintance. For me, that is one of the most difficult things for anyone – not just myself – to do in a truly precise and universal way. When someone asks me who I am and what I’m like, I am not going to tell them about the model car I drive, my favorite movie, the type of cell phone I use, my political affiliations, or what my dream job may be. Those are entirely irrelevant to me and have no impact on who I am as a human being on this planet. Those are things that have come into my life, but my life has not been created by those things. Since I am only in my early 20′s, I think it will be a long while before I can formulate some sort of definitive verbal or textual response to those who ask who I am. Until then, it is probably best to just read a few posts or so on this website to get a vague idea of what I am really like!
